Ray John of the Oneida Nation, a Knowledge Sharer and Cultural Advisor, opened the event by highlighting the importance of acknowledging the many hands involved in food production and distribution.
The themes GROW, EAT, UNDERSTAND allowed participants to explore the food system’s breadth, addressing agri-food production, food distribution, urban agriculture, local markets, food access, education, sustainability, and the impacts of colonialism. Concerns about COVID-19, rising energy costs, and food prices were also discussed.
The event was made possible by MLFPC members, volunteers, and funding from the London Community Recovery Network. The Grove, an agri-business hub, and Growing Chefs! Ontario provided essential resources. Growing Chefs!, served a lunch featuring traditional Indigenous and local foods.
